Ski Buddy Program Continues This Year at the Mount Shasta Ski Park

Posted in

Shasta DSUSA Ski Buddy Program is designed to connect volunteers with skiers with disabilities who may need some assistance or are looking for some company while out on the slopes.

Ski buddies are volunteers trained to assist users of mono-ski and bi-ski equipment. They are also trained in the techniques used to assist skiers with visual impairments and cognitive disabilities.

Shasta DSUSA members seeking to be paired with a ski buddy should call 530-925-1531 or email to make a reservation. Try to give us a one week notice so that we can find a volunteer appropriate for your needs. Ski buddies are not instructors. Participants in the ski buddy program should already have some prior ski instruction.

Volunteers seeking to become a ski buddy need to particpate in one or more of Shasta DSUSA training dates and to be checked off by a qualified trainer. Candidates should be intermediate to expert skiers comfortable on green, blue, and black groomed terrain. See our event calendar for dates and times. If there is enough demand, we will schedule more training dates. Ski buddies receive a complementary ski pass for the day the volunteer and one for an additional day.

The Ski Buddy Program is only available at the Mount Shasta Ski Park, who have graciously supported our efforts to offer this program to our members.
